Welcome to Bee Hut

Northamptonshire Based Bee Keeper

At our family run beekeeping operation in Northamptonshire, we are dedicated to producing high-quality honey and beeswax products from our own carefully tended bees.

Our Commitment to Bee Welfare and Sustainability

  • Bee Welfare: We prioritize the health and well-being of our bees, treating them with the utmost care and respect.

  • Sustainable Practices: We strive to maintain a low carbon footprint, minimizing the use of plastics and chemicals in our beekeeping processes.

Handcrafted Hives for Happy Bees

We design and build our own hives, inspired by the BS National hive design, using only FSC-certified wood. Our commitment to quality and sustainability extends to every detail:

  • Natural Materials: We never use pressure-treated timber in our hives. Instead, we treat our hives with natural linseed oil or water-based paint, both confirmed safe for bees by their manufacturers.

Apiary Sites

We operate nine apiary sites across Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire. Each location provides unique access to the beautiful English countryside, with a rich variety of wild plants, hedgerows, trees, and crops. This diversity allows our bees to produce a range of delicious, locally sourced honey that captures the essence of each area. Click here to find out more.

Supporting Sustainable Beekeeping with BIBBA, Better-B, and NBKA

At Bee Hut, our passion for sustainable beekeeping and dedication to the health of our bee colonies are at the core of everything we do. We are proud members of several esteemed organizations that share our commitment to improving beekeeping practices and supporting bee health. These include the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders' Association (BIBBA) and the Northamptonshire Beekeepers Association (NBKA).

Advancing Academic and Practical Knowledge

At Bee Hut, we are deeply committed to advancing both academic and practical knowledge of bee health and beekeeping. We believe that collaboration is key to making meaningful progress in this field. That's why we are always eager to work with academic institutions and projects that are making a positive difference in sustainable beekeeping and bee health in the UK.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Bee Hut is committed to the well-being of our bees and the environment. Our collaborations with BIBBA, the Better-B project, and NBKA are testaments to our dedication to fostering resilient, thriving bee colonies. Together, we can make a significant impact on the future of beekeeping.

Memberships and Academic support

Partnering with the Better-B Project

Nottingham Trent University

In our continuous effort to support and advance beekeeping practices, we are actively participating in the Better-B project at Nottingham Trent University. This pioneering research programme is focused on developing varroa-resistant colonies of honey bees. Varroa mites are one of the most significant threats to bee populations worldwide, and finding effective, sustainable solutions to this issue is critical for the future of beekeeping and agriculture.

Supporting the Better-B Project:

Bee Hut provides bees from our colonies to be part of the Better-B project's studies. By doing so, we contribute to a greater understanding of how bees can naturally develop resistance to varroa mites. This collaboration aims to:

  • Enhance Bee Health: Through rigorous scientific research, we are working towards creating bee colonies that can withstand varroa mite infestations, reducing the need for chemical treatments and promoting healthier bees.

  • Sustainable Beekeeping Practices: Our involvement in the Better-B project helps to promote sustainable and environmentally-friendly beekeeping methods, ensuring the long-term viability of bee populations.

Education and Awareness: By supporting research and innovation, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of bees and the challenges they face, encouraging more people to engage in and support beekeeping.

Member of the Bee Improvement & Bee Breeders Association (BIBBA)

As members of BIBBA, we promote the conservation, restoration, study, selection, and improvement of native and near-native honey bees in the British Isles. Our involvement with BIBBA underscores our commitment to fostering resilient, thriving bee colonies. Find out more about our queen rearing programme here.

Members of National Beekeepers Association (NBKA)

Our membership in the Northamptonshire Beekeepers Association (NBKA) further reinforces our dedication to the beekeeping community. NBKA provides valuable resources, support, and education to beekeepers in our region, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge and best practices are shared.
